I’m a DIY kind of gal. I love to create. Creating something myself gives me a sense of accomplishment as well as ataraxy. My planner is no exception. I have used Franklin Covey and DayTimer for years and years, buying preprinted inserts I’m never fully happy with. Thus, printing my own inserts is the most practical thing for me, whether I’m using my discbound system or Franklin Covey classic size binders.
Binders
I actually have a variety of planner binders I can choose from. I use full size for notes and half size for my planner. Currently I am using my Cocoa Paper black leather cover in the half or A5 size, which fits a half sheet of paper. I love the classic look of black leather planners. I’ve provided some links below to Amazon for covers I have too.
I’ve included in this post my Amazon affiliate links, such as for covers similar to what I am using for notes and my planner. You can also purchase these at Staples or similar ones at Office Depot. I order from Amazon.
The size I most often use is a junior (or classic) size, which takes a half sheet of paper. Junior size covers are convenient for printing two pages per sheet. Just cut the sheet in half and you have two pages of your planner without wasting paper.

| My letter size cover in purple |
This is my letter size binder. I do like the letter size for a school or business notebook when I want to have a full sheet of paper without cutting or folding. I am using this size currently for a class I am taking and for my business note taking, like the purple one above. Very nice!
Paper Punches

The punches are probably the best investment I’ve made for using discbound systems. For a variety of sizes, they punch the notches used by these systems, including Arc, Tul, Levenger, Martha Stewart, Happy Planner, and more. These punches work on many weights of paper. I usually use 24 lb. for my planner. I’ve even made my own covers by punching those clear flexible cutting mats you can get from Dollar Tree as well as vinyl place mats. With the right equipment you can save a lot on planner inserts and planner covers.
Come back and read my next posts. I will share with you how to set up a Goal oriented planner.
